ITeach website refresh

Overview
I Teach Solutions, a France-based professional learning and development business, was looking for a website refresh to showcase their brand-new Teacher Retreats.
Role
UX Designer
Research, Ideation, Agile, Personas, Prototyping, Data management.
Background
After an initial Zoom meeting, I discovered that Nat, the owner of ITeach, comes from a well-travelled and experienced background. She has taught worldwide on almost every continent and wanted her website to represent that. Not only was her current site outdated, it wasn't even live!

From the meeting, these are the key objectives.

Highlights for project
-
Work with the website hosting platform to find out why the website was not live and fix it.
-
Re-design website layout to provide a new Home/Landing that advertised the new retreat locations
-
Design a retreats page that allows the user to easily view, book and pay for upcoming retreats in the easiest way possible.
-
Once these were completed, work on refreshing the entire website.
Understanding the problem
Once we had worked through the initial meeting about Nat's wants and needs for the website, I dived into her current site to see what should stay and what we could do better for her.

These are the key findings that I discovered during my research.

Findings
-
The current website was laid out poorly, and some menu items were missing.
-
The Retreats page was not uniform in its display. For example, cards featuring retreat information were all of different sizes.
-
The contact and book now forms were not working, leaving users unable to reserve their spot at a retreat and no way to contact I Teach to inform them.
-
Design elements were uneven and uniform, leading to a clunky experience for the user.
-
Customer Data Management was hard to navigate. We wanted to set it up so that Nat could independently manage, view and change things if needed.
Vision & Solution
With the research completed, it was time to start implementing the ideas.
-
A decision was made to migrate the website to a new platform. (Softr)
-
An Airtable account to simplify customer data management and could be linked with a Softr site easily.
-
Using a Softr site would mean that Nat could edit or change details independently without requiring me to be there.
-
Create a solid brand and UI Kit for Nat to use for social media and website content.
Choosing the best choice
Once the Softr decision had been made, it was time to work on building this website!

It was established that to stick with Nat's personal style, the following options need to be considered.

-
Keep orange as a highlight to represent Nat's worldwide 4WD adventures.
-
Focus on telling the story of Nat's extensive teaching experience and really let her bright, bubbly personality shine through!
-
Clean up, organise and create a new section for new courses in Tasmania.
-
Keep it simple. Keep it easy to update.

Designs
Locations page

Nat wanted a clean, fuss-free layout that allowed her to add her own descriptions for the products and locations.
Courses/Retreats

It wasn't easy on the retreats page to create an even layout that allowed for description space. Challange accepted though!
Courses/Retreats

A section was dedicated to providing a snapshot of what I Teach offer.
Results/Takeaways
In the end, I was happy with the final design. While I could spend hours making small changes to the site and second-guessing everything, I had to remember that the client (Nat) was more than happy with what we had designed. The finished product provided a smooth, easy user experience and has been successful in helping clients view and book retreats in France and Australia.

I learned through this, to always remember that what you want in a website is not always what the client wants and to remember that the client and the user always come first.
